Body of missing Caernarfon dad found
A body recovered from the Menai Strait is that of a young dad who has missing for several weeks.
The remains of Johnathan Peter Edwards, known as Jono, were found on Tuesday on the mainland side of the Menai shoreline near Bangor.
North Wales Police said that during the early evening of Tuesday, emergency services were alerted after a man’s body found on the mainland side of the Menai Strait shoreline near Bangor.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers believed it was Mr Edwards, who went missing from his home in Caernarfon in March and his family were informed.
Yesterday, further tests confirmed his identity and police revisited his family to pass the sad news.
Sergeant Rhys Gough at Caernarfon police station said: “Our thoughts are very much with Johnathan’s family and on their behalf I’d ask their privacy be respected at this very difficult time.”
The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner for North West Wales Dewi Pritchard-Jones has been notified.
Police, the coastguard and the RNLI had been scouring the area for Mr Edwards who left his home in at around midnight on Sunday, March 19 and hadn’t been seen since
Family and friends also joined the search for the 21-year-old married father-of-one, originally from Llangefni, Anglesey with much of the effort focused on the Menai Bridge and Upper Bangor areas.
He worked at McColl’s shop in Bontnewydd and at McDonald’s, Caernarfon, where staff showed their concern for their colleague and spoke of their hope he would be found.
At the time he went missing, McDonald’s Caernarfon manager Lyn Jones said: “It’s been quite a shock to tell you the truth. He was always polite. I would see him quite often around town.”
Staff member Theresa Fedigan added: “It’s a shock for all of us. He was married and they had recently had a baby. He was quiet. We have all shared the police appeal for information on social media and we all hope he’s alright.”
