Thieves ransack Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway office stealing thousands of pounds
Thieves smashed their way into a railway office making off with thousands of pounds.
The break-in at Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway offices on St Helen’s Road in Caernarfon was discovered by devastated staff at 9am today.
It is thought that raiders broke a rear window to gain access to the site sometime overnight.
Paul Lewin of Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway told the Daily Post the office was “ransacked” by the yobs.
He said: “There was a break-in overnight and several thousands of pounds were taken.
“The place was absolutely ransacked and they made a right mess of the place.
“However, we do have some really clear and strong CCTV images of the offender.”
Following the burglary, security is being stepped-up and no cash will be left onsite overnight from now on.
Paul said: “We had more money in the office than usual because of the Bank Holiday but after this we’ll not be keeping any cash stored on site overnight now.
“The worst thing has been the mess left more than anything. It’s the cost of putting things right and replacing windows that is the most damaging. It’s just really upsetting.”
North Wales Police are investigating and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
