Porthmadog warmest place in the UK but rain is on the way

Porthmadog is the warmest place in the UK today with temperatures reaching 17C.

The Gwynedd seaside town has been basking in sunshine along with much of North Wales for the last few days.

Most of the gorgeous sunshine should continue until later this week but then rain will arrive, the Met Office have forecast.

North Wales has had pleasant weather since Sunday however the forecasters warn tomorrow will be cloudy before the sun returns on Wednesday.

Temperatures have been in the mid-teens across the region today and should increase as the week continues.

Porthmadog is something of a sun trap when the weather is fine and is one of the hottest spots in the country on a semi-regular basis.

Grahame Madge at the Met Office said: “In terms of sunshine today has been very good but there will be a few more clouds around tomorrow.

“It won’t be wall-to-wall, but it’s going to be more cloudy with some good breaks here or there to enjoy.

“Wednesday looks great in the forecast, it should be quite a bit like today.

“On Thursday it’ll start to cloud over again, especially later on, with cloud coming in from the south.

“On Friday there will be quite a bit of heavy rain. It will be quite localised so not everyone will experience it at once.

“On Saturday a new weather front is expected to come in and there will be a north west/south east split and at the moment it’s hard to judge where North Wales will sit on that.”

The coming rain, Mr Madge explained, is overdue.

He added: ” April was a dry month , it’s been a lot drier than normal so unfortunately the rain is overdue.”
