Two face charges over 'rolling pin' cat killing at Betws y Coed hotel
Two former members of staff at a Conwy hotel have been charged with causing “unnecessary suffering” to a cat.
Last December a cat was killed in the kitchen at the Royal Oak Hotel, in Betws y Coed.
Following public outcry hotel bosses admitted staff were responsible for the death of the kitten, but insisted he was “humanely killed”.
In the following days after the incident the RSPCA confirmed they were investigating the death of the animal.
More than 87,000 people signed a petition calling for action to be taken against the staff involved.
The two employees allegedly involved in the incident were later sacked by the hotel for not following ‘company policy or procedures’.
An RSPCA spokesman said: “Two men have been summoned to appear at Llandudno Magistrates’ Courts, for allegedly causing unnecessary suffering to a cat at the Royal Oak Hotel at Betws y Coed.
“Dylan Marcus Edwards, 50, of Plas Helyg, Willow Street, Llanrwst; and Lyndon Harvey Marshall, 36, of Church View, Pentrefoelas, are the subject of the summons, each concerning an alleged Animal Welfare Act 2006 offence.”
The summons concerns an allegation a cat was killed in the kitchen of the Royal Oak Hotel.

A petition launched at the time calling for action to be taken against staff at the Betws y Coed hotel secured 73,000 signatures in just four days and just short of 100,000 overall.

The online petition calling for “justice” for the animal has signatures from as far as America, Dubai, India, Nepal, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Canada.
