Colwyn Bay rolls back the years for Forties Festival knees up
Thousands of people enjoyed Colwyn Bay’s 1940s Festival over the weekend.
The town was teeming with activity as the years were rolled back to celebrate all things forties.
There was an appearance by the Llandudno Tram, 1940’s memorabilia displays courtesy of Home Front and performances from the Llandudno Swing Band, Paul Casper as George Formby and Glamourphones.
A highlight for many was the appearance of a World War II Spitfire in the main street.
Jackie Crane, chair of the Bay of Colwyn Business Network, said: “This is our sixth year and we are delighted that the festival remains so popular with the public and with exhibitors.”
Staff and pupils at Rydal Penrhos lent their support to a the event.
In addition to aiding with the organisation of the showcase, pupils took on the role of evacuees on a special journey from Prestatyn to Colwyn Bay in character as World War II children fleeing from war torn cities.
The World’s smallest solar powered cinema, found in a vintage caravan powered entirely by solar energy, was also in attendance.
The popular Ballroom Blitz was staged on Saturday evening for those wishing to dance the night away for 40’s themed music, while Sunday’s Battle of Parc Eirias at 3pm is regarded as the highlight of the event.
