Armed police arrest four men in Rhyl 'incident'
Armed police arrested four men in Rhyl last night following an ‘incident’ in the Wellington Road area.
More than a dozen officers carrying firearms were seen in the area but North Wales Police have said no shots were fired.
As of 11pm yesterday police were still in the area and a cordon had been set up around a flat.
Chief Inspector Martin Best said last night: “We can confirm that police are currently dealing with an ongoing incident on Wellington Road in Rhyl.
“We are aware of suggestions circulating on social media that there has been a shooting, however we can confirm this is not the case.
“We would like to reassure the local community that officers remain in and around the area of Wellington Road which remains under police cordon.
“We can also confirm that four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and all four remain in police custody.”
Vehicles were seen being removed from the area.
An eye-witness has described the scene outside his flat in Wellington Road, in Rhyl.
Christopher Walters, 52, was sitting watching TV, when he heard a commotion outside.
He said: “I heard the police shout “armed police open up!”, outside the flat next door.
“I didn’t hear any gun-shots but there was a lot of noise. I opened the door but an armed officer shouted at me to shut the door.
“The armed police were wearing black helmets with scarves covering their faces, you could only see their eyes.
“My wife was terrified.
“Then they led a man who looked to be in his 20s, wearing a grey hoodie into a police car.”
