Armed police arrest four over alleged Rhyl murder plot and possession of a gun
Four men arrested after armed police forcibly stopped a car in Rhyl are being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm.
Officers say the stop on Monday night was part of a “planned policing operation” after a man in his 20s was seriously assaulted during a “confrontation between a group of men” in a flat on Rhyl High Street earlier that day.
Armed police from North Wales and Merseyside Police’s Matrix Team followed the car back to Rhyl, forcing it to stop on Wellington Road before the arrests were made.
There have been reports of gunfire heard in the Wellington Road area at about 9pm on Monday, but North Wales Police have denied that there was a “shooting.”
A North Wales Police spokesman said: “Four men arrested following a planned policing operation in Rhyl on Monday night continue to be questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm.
“The men were arrested when a vehicle was forcibly stopped in an operation that followed an incident in Rhyl High Street earlier in the day.
DI Chris Bell said: “We appreciate that the community have been concerned by this incident. We would like to thank the public for their patience and assistance as our investigation continues.”
