Caernarfon Food Festival poised to attract thousands
Around 10,000 people are expected to visit Caernarfon on Saturday for a free food festival at one of the world’s most stunning locations.
This will be the second Gwyl Fwyd Caernarfon Food Festival with the Gwynedd town’s famous Castle providing a fantastic backdrop.
Organised by a committee of volunteers, festival-goers are being invited to “eat, drink and be merry” at the event on May 13 which last year attracted 10,000 people.
Eleri Lovgreen, town councillor and one of the event organisers, said the one-day festival starts at 9.30am with more than 100 stalls.
She said: “All of the stallholders will have roofs and shelters so the show will go on whatever the weather.
“There will be plenty of stalls and cookery exhibitions featuring top chefs at Copa and bands on at the Market Hall.
“There will also be two stages for performing – one at the top of Stryd Llyn (Pool Street) and the other on Cei Llechi (Slate Quay).
Cooks showing off their skills include Maggie Ogunbanwo, Matt Guy, Aled Williams, Hywel Griffith and Carwyn Jones.
Bands featuring on at the harbourmaster stage include Phil Gas a’i Fand, Patrobas, Banda Bacana and Meinir Gwilym with Steve Pablo, Will Williams and others at Market Hall and Côr Tenovus, Côr Cofnod and CôrNarfon among other choirs at the Stryd Llyn stage.
There will be Lloc yr Anifeiliaid – a farm animals pen – at Cei Llechi with pigs, calves, sheep goats and a full-size cow for children to milk.
Eleri said: “Nobody has to pay to attend the festival. The stallholders prefer that because it means that people are more ready to spend money.”
