Former Caernarfon Town FC players wanted to share memories
Footballing legends of yesteryear will “unhanging” their boot to mark the launch of a former Caernarfon Town FC players association.
The football club’s directors are calling on all former players – whether they played for the first team or reserves from whatever era – to join them this evening to watch some of the club’s greats in action on the Oval field and to share some of the memories in the supporters club after the game.
Director and organiser Alex Philp said: “We have a host of former Caernarfon players from the past 30 years including Russ Hughes and Stuart Clynch from the famous FA Cup giant killing side; Stuart Williams, Dave Cockram, Alan Schumaker from the days in the Northern Premier; Mally Tidswell and Danny Jellicoe from the treble winning side of 2000/01 and many other local stars from over the years including Tony Bohana, Dylan Owen and Geraint Mitchell.
“Also added to line up is former captain Emrys Williams who holds the record for Welsh Premier league 160 appearance for Caernarfon Town, and Ian Bold from the treble winning side of 2000/01.”
The Town Legends will be under the stewardship of former manager and Wales international and former Wrexham FC midfielder Wayne Phillips and Paul Rowlands.
The other team will be The League of Wales/Welsh Premier All Stars under the watchful eye of former Wales international Ian Edwards who once scored four versus Malta in 1978.
Alex said: “We have an array of top players including Bangor City legends Craig Garside, Mark Rutter, Chris Short and Eifion Jones. From Porthmadog’s days in the top flight we have Geraint Jones, Mike Foster, Richard Harvey, Marcus Orlik and Gareth Parry. Also adding to the excitement will be three of the Welsh Premiers greatest strikers in the form of Tommy Mutton (114 goals), Paul Roberts (147 goals) and Grahame Evans (157 goals).”
He added: “It promises to be a great match so please bring all the family along for a footballing treat.”
Kick off is at 5pm at The Oval and admission is £3 adults, £1 Juniors and OAP’s and children free.
