Fresh plans for up to 100 homes at North Wales quarry submitted
Fresh plans to build up to 100 homes at a former North Wales quarry have been submitted.
Plas Gwilym Quarry in Old Colwyn once provided the rock to build parts of the A55, Colwyn Bay sea wall and Conwy Bridge.
Until 2013 it remained the base for Daniel Contractors, before the firm went into administration.
The Daily Post first revealed in 2014 that Renew Land Developments had bought the quarry and wanted to turn the disused site into housing.
An initial plan was withdrawn but now new outline planning proposals have been submitted with Conwy council.
The scheme is for between 80 and 100 homes.
There have previously been concerns from residents in the area over the strain the extra houses will put on local services and also the traffic access to the site and potential safety issues.
Planning agent Barry Newcombe Associates said: “The proposal provides a high quality housing development which will be an attractive and sustainable place in which to live.
“It creates a sensitive response to the site and will integrate well into its surroundings.”
They added: “The amount of units on site will be within the range of 80 to 100 units with the eventual figure being dependent upon the size of individual units.
“The indicative layout features dwellings with a mix of traditional semi’s and detached open market housing.
“The density across the site will be an efficient and effective use of the land.”
The plans are expected to come before the planning committee of Conwy council later this year.
