Gwynedd cyclist remains in critical condition after crash
A teenage cyclist remains critically ill in hospital after crashing into a wall while riding near his home.
Connor Jones, 17, from Mynytho was treated by doctors and paramedics at the scene of the incident at around 4.50pm on Wednesday, April 26, before being airlifted to a specialist trauma unit at a Stoke on Trent hospital.
His family are at his bedside.
Speaking on behalf of the family Connor’s uncle, Paul Tyrrell, said: “Unfortunately Connor is very, very poorly.
“He is a real fighter and appeared to be showing signs of improvement over the weekend but he is still very critically ill.
“Connor has suffered a massive head injury and we’re all praying he pulls through.”
He added Connor’s family have nothing but praise for the efforts of hospital staff.
“They can’t do enough for Connor and we all appreciate that very much. The kindness they are showing to the family is also very much appreciated,” he said.
Mr Tyrrell said he was also grateful for the mesages of support from the community in Mynytho.
“Connor is a character, always cheerful and smiling,” he said.
Friends and neighbours have posted messages on Facebook expressing their shock and sending Connor good wishes.
Eleri Jones said: “C’mon Connor bach,I remember when you were at Ysgol Mynytho,that cheeky smile.”
And Jen Rogowski added: “He’s a strong lad, give him a big hug from me…C’mon Connor you will get through this ur a tough lad xxxx”
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the accident on the unclassified road between Mynytho and Abersoch near the Rhandir Caravan Park at about 4.50pm last Wednesday.
Connor is believed to have been riding his bike towards Abersoch when the accident happened on a steep, downhill section on a good surface. Police are investigating and have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 101 quoting reference number V059150.
