King Arthur movie filmed in Snowdonia flops at the United States box office
Director Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur movie – partly filmed in Snowdonia – has had a disappointing debut at the US box office.
King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword opened to a bleak 14.7m dollars (£11.4 million), according to studio estimates on Sunday.
The gritty reimagining of the Excalibur myth, which stars Charlie Hunnam as Arthur, had a costly 175m dollars (£135.7 million) production budget.
But the film, which also features a cameo from David Beckham, only managed to debut in third place, behind Guardians of the Galaxy and comedy Snatched.
Scenes of the movie were filmed in the Nant Gwynant area near Beddgelert , as well as Vivian Quarry near Llanberis and Capel Curig in Conwy in April and May 2015.
In the new movie the classic Excalibur myth is given a new twist following Arthur’s journey from the streets of Londinium to the throne.
Robbed of his birthright the young prince is totally unaware of his background and only learns of his destiny when he pulls the sword from the stone.
King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword opens in the UK on May 19.
