Man charged with aggravated burglary after Rhyl assault
A man appeared before magistrates this morning charged with aggravated burglary after a “serious assault” at a flat on Rhyl High Street.
Damien Wilding, 31 from Meliden was arrested after a man in his 20s was left with “serious but not life-threatening injuries” during an attack at around 6.30am on Monday.
After Wilding’s arrest shortly afterwards, he was remanded in custody and appeared before Wrexham Magistrates Court this morning.
Magistrates ruled that he be further remanded until his next appearance at Mold Crown Court on May 26.
The incident has been linked to a “planned police operation” later that same day, which saw four other men arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm.
Detectives have since been granted a warrant of further detention to interview the suspects.
They were “forcibly stopped” by armed officers on Wellington Road, Rhyl at around 9pm.
Police now have a further 36 hours to question them.
DI Chris Bell said: “I would like to reassure the public that we have a team of dedicated specialist officers diligently working on this. Whilst the investigation is continuing, we are grateful to the public for their support and patience.”
