Porthmadog the hottest place in the UK AGAIN as temperatures soar to 22C
Glorious sunshine has sent temperatures soaring across North Wales with the region declared the UK’s hotspot today.
Thermometers hit 22C in Porthmadog – making it the warmest place in the country so far today.
It also means that it has been the hottest day of the year so far in Wales – beating the 21.1C recorded in Betws-y-Coed on April 9.
Porthmadog was also crowned hottest place in the UK on April 19 at 19.2C.
North Wales is set to bask in balmy weather for the next few days with tropical air expected to sweep across the region from next week.
However, while some parts of the UK could see a mini-heatwave with temperatures at 25C from Monday it looks like North Wales will miss out.
But, it’s not all bad news as it will still be warm with temperatures in the high teens.
A Met Office spokesman said: “It’s been a relatively bright start to the day in North Wales, but cloud will arrive later this afternoon.
“We could see some showers this evening especially on the western side of North Wales with rain moving from the Irish Sea.
“On Friday, cloud will build during the day gradually getting thicker into the evening. Temperatures will be at around 19C.”
He added: “On Saturday, showers will clear in the morning but a band of rain will move across the region during the evening but that will clear by midday on Sunday when there will be bright conditions mixed with a few showers. It will be mild with temperatures at 17-18C during the weekend.”
Forecasters say that temperatures will be on the rise next week with a “milder tropical maritime air mass” moving across the country from the South West.
However, while temperatures will be up to 21C on Monday and Tuesday it might not result in perfect beach weather.
The Met Office warns that the tropical air will be “warm and moist” which could bring some showers.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Next week, we’ll see a change in the weather as a milder tropical maritime air moves from the South West.
“There are reports of a mini-heatwave with temperatures in the mid 20s but you are probably only going to see that in the South East of the UK unfortunately.
“However, temperatures will still be warm in North Wales with temperatures in the late teens and possibly up to 21C in some areas depending on cloud cover.”
The good weather is expected to last until at least Wednesday, say weather experts.
