Rhyl murder victim VJ's widow says his 'smile lit up a room'
The wife of murder victim Amarjeet Singh-Bhakar has paid tribute to her “caring soulmate” who “lit up a room” when he walked in.
In an emotional statement Sushi told how her 37-year-old partner was a “real family man” and that they would all miss his smile.
Mr Singh-Bhakar, a popular shopkeeper who lived in Manchester, was killed in the Prince Edward Avenue area of Rhyl in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Sushi said: “VJ was a real family man, he was so caring and everything he did was for his family and his two children.
“He was my soulmate and everyone loved him to bits.
“We will miss his smile and the way he lit up a room when he walked in.”
Following his tragic death, friends of Mr Singh-Bhakar have set up a fundraising page.
A target of £1,000 has been set by page creator Carinya Collins with all donations to be given to Mr Singh-Bhakar’s wife and two children.
A message on the gofundme page, which has so far raised more than £100 in less than a day, said: “We are doing a collection for VJ’s wife and children.
“VJ was a well known man in Manchester and Rhyl. VJ has a shop in Rhyl and a market stall on Tir Prince Market.
“VJ was brutally murdered and has left behind a stunning wife and two small children. Any donation would be really much appreciated.”
Mr Singh-Bhakar, has been described as devoted to his faith and family and divided his time between his home in Burnage, Manchester, and his business interests in North Wales.
Shocked customers and friends have been leaving floral tributes outside the shop he had run for around 18 months and outside a property on Prince Edward Avenue. A simple motif reading “RIP VJ” with a heart was left on the shop door.
An announcement on the shop’s Facebook page said the future of Mr Singh’s business was uncertain but the shop would remain closed for the forseeable future.
Two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16 from Rhyl, have today appeared in court charged with his murder.
The 16-year-old is also charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
They were remanded in custody and will appear at Mold Crown Court tomorrow (May 4).
Neither can be identified for legal reasons because of their age.
Five other males were also in court charged with violent disorder in relation to the same incident. One of those, a 15 year old who wept as he left court, cannot be identified.
The other four are Amar Singh, 28, of Green End Road, Manchester. He is the cousin of the murdered Amarjeet Singh-Bhakar.
Mohanjeet Singh, 18, of Kingsway, Manchester. He is the brother of the murdered man.
Sanah Ullah, 30, of Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton, Manchester and Ameer Wahid, 24, of Hardy Lane, Chorlton, Manchester.
