See damage caused by Llanfairfechan gorse fire as farmer pleads 'don't burn on the mountains'
Tweeting farmer Gareth Wyn Jones has pleaded with arsonists after another gorse fire in Llanfairfechan this morning.
Gareth Wyn Jones shared a video on social media showing the devastating aftermath of the gorse fire.
He pleaded with the public to ‘please take care and don’t burn on the mountains.’
The incident was the latest in a number of gorse fires to hit the region recently.
Speaking to the Daily Post Gareth said: “It has been the fifth or sixth fire here recently.”
“Education is the key that is it not right to burn and birds are nesting now.
“It’s just got to stop. It is very dry up there this time of year even a cigarette stump can start a fire- you just have to be careful.”
Gareth Wyn Jones tweeted a photo of himself with fire service thanking them for putting the fire out on the Carneddau mountains.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called at 10.26am and one crew from Bangor was sent to the scene.
The blaze took just over an hour to be extinguished by firefighters.
He added: “There has been five or six fires recently which a quarter of the mountain has been burnt.”
“Gorse catches like anything. It will grow back but what’s sad is birds are nesting and the wildlife is burnt.”
A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “The cause of the fire is deliberate ignition .”
