Snow, ice and temperatures to plunge below freezing as Arctic blast set to hit North Wales
Temperatures are expected to plunge below zero overnight tonight with a widespread frost forecast.
An arctic weather front is crossing the United Kingdom bringing icy gales and even snow in parts of Snowdonia.
The weather is coming in from Iceland with parts of Scotland already subject to a yellow warning from the Met Office for snow.
The cold spell, which will see temperatures plunge to -1C, could last for several days including into the May Bank Holiday weekend.
A forecaster from the Met Office said today will be “mainly cloudy with some outbreaks of light rain.
“The cloud and rain slowly will clear southwards through the day with drier, brighter but noticeably colder conditions following from the north.”
Tonight will see the mercury drop and on Tuesday morning there will be a widespread frost.
Brisk winds through the day on Tuesday will also bring hail and possibly thunder.
The Met Office’s Alex Deakin said: “The cold air is coming down from the Arctic [early next week], across Iceland.
“Fast forward to Tuesday [April 25], and that colder air has pushed right across the UK.
“There is a suggestion of some more wintry weather and snow on the hills could return for a time next week.”
The Weather Channel has said the 10C weather today will feel more like 7C because of the wind and there is a 70% chance of light rain.
There is an 80% chance of rain on Tuesday.
