City Breaks by Boat
Bath: Discover the city of Bath on the Kennet and Avon Canal, a World Heritage Site, with its Roman Baths and Pump Room and the Georgian architecture of the Royal Crescent. As well as its many museums, galleries and gardens to explore.
Oxford: Accessible via the South Oxford Canal and the River Thames. ‘The city of dreaming spires’ as written by the Poet, Matthew Arnold. With the University of Oxford and plenty of historic halls such as Blenheim Palace and Carfax Tower to visit. There are lots of shopping opportunities and markets such as the covered market, a variety of dining out experiences and opportunities to take the River on a romantic punt trip.
Birmingham: A city with lots of group attractions to offer, home to Cadburys World, National paintballing fields and a SEA LIFE centre. The city also offers canal boats a chance to moor at Gas Street Basin, next to Broad Street offering a variety of bars, clubs. and Cineworld. Cadburys World is just off the Worcester & Birmingham Canal past Kings Norton Junction, 5 miles south of Gas Street Basin.
Chester: The medieval city of Chester along the Shropshire Union Canal with its King Charles Tower and double-tier shopping streets is great for a weekend break. Other nearby highlights include Beeston Castle and Ellesmere Port – the home of the boat museum.
Glasgow & Edinburgh: From Falkirk, cruise along the Union Canal to Edinburgh with highlights including the Falkirk tunnel and Linlithgow Palace as well as travelling on the Falkirk Wheel. Alternatively, cruise along the Forth and Clyde Canal to Glasgow taking in the Campsie Fells and the old ship building village of Bowling.
Stratford on Avon: The birthplace of William Shakespeare, nestled in the great Warwickshire countryside. The town offers a chance to flavour Olde England, with thatched houses, fine old buildings on the waterways. If you are in the area, be sure to stop off at Europes largest Butterfly Farm just across the waters from Royal Shakespeare Theatre.
Warwick: Home to dozens of country pubs, gardens and golf grounds and of course, Warwick Castle – a medieval day out. Spend the day immersed in eleven hundred years worth of history with interactive experiences, dramatisations and shows. The Grand Union Canal meanders through Royal Lemington Spa, before making its way through the north side of central Warwick.
Norfolk Broads Boat Hire
The Norfolk Broads offer Britain’s largest protected wetland, great for nature lovers with the rivers, broads, marshes and fens all supporting rare habitats for plants and animals alike.
Norwich and Great Yarmouth are both accessible by boat, and great for group activities, stopping off on the Great Yarmouth beaches or travelling to Norwich city centre. Also not to be missed is a trip to Wroxham, a town crowned ‘Capital of the Broads’.
