The odds facing some North Wales MPs trying to keep their jobs at General Election
Odds of up to 10/1 are being offered on some of North Wales’ MP’s retaining their seats at next month’s General Election amid predictions of Labour being ‘wiped out’.
Bookies across the country are almost certain that Theresa May will return to Number 10 following the June 8 poll, with any punters placing a £10 stake on a Conservative majority only looking to make a £1 profit.
But while there may not be much value in predicting the overall winner, anyone fancying a flutter may find more luck in the individual seat market.
On Ynys Môn, you can find odds as generous as 10/1 on sitting MP Albert Owen retaining his seat for Labour.
Instead the favourite, according to Sky Bet, is former Plaid Cymru leader Ieuan Wyn Jones, quoted at 4/7 although the Conservatives cannot be discounted either at 13/8.
While no odds are currently being offered on Plaid Cymru’s currently held seats of Arfon and Dwyfor Meirionnydd, William Hill widely expect Guto Bebb to retain Aberconwy for the Conservatives, offering only 1/25 odds, with newcomer Emily Owen a distant second favourite at 12/1.
Following the national trend, the Conservatives are also expected to do well in border country areas.
In Wrexham , SkyBet are offering 7/2 on Ian Lucas keeping hold of the seat he’s held for Labour since 2001, with only 1/6 on offer for Andrew Atkinson for the Tories.
Its a similar story in neighbouring Clwyd South with Simon Baynes the odds on favourite, 1/8, to capture the seat from Susan Elan Jones for Labour, 9/2 according to SkyBet.
William Hill are also predicting a Tory win in Alyn and Deeside by Laura Knightly (2/5) with Mark Tami facing a fight on his hands to keep the seat in Labour ranks (7/4).
Incredibly short odds of 1/50 are being offered on Brexit Minister David Jones going back to Parliament as the MP for Clwyd West, while former MP Gareth Thomas being listed at 14/1 for Labour.
Following this similar pattern, William Hill say the Tories are also front runners to capture Delyn from sitting Labour MP David Hanson (7/2), with only 1/6 being offered on the seat turning blue.
Finally, SkyBet fully expect Dr James Davies to hold the Vale of Clwyd for the Tories (1/7) with Chris Ruane’s hopes of prying back the seat to the Labour corner, offered at odds of 4/1.
