Culburra Beach is a delightful holiday town, in a magic location east of Nowra and close to the northern shore of Jervis Bay. The town was designed by Walter Burley Griffin, the architect who designed Canberra. Culburra Beach has very good amenities and a delightful shopping centre that supplies most of the tourist needs, including a bait and tackle shop, surf shop, supermarket, vide store, caravan parks and lots of holiday accommodation.
There are two major sandy coastlines, Culburra Beach, protected interior the Shoalhaven River mouth, and Warrain Beach opposite the sea with Nowra Surf Club at the to the north end. Both sandy coastlines are patrolled by lifesavers throughout the summer months. With two large sandy coastlines to select from, tourists will usually find the surf or bathing situation that matches your desires – for swimmers, board riders, body board riders and families with juvenile children.
There is very good angling from the sandy coastlines, from the rocky headlands and from vessels in the stream and offshore. Lake Wollumboola, south of the village, is a defended waterbird environment, that furthermore presents a large location for canoeing and kayaking. Most of the holiday activities are focused on surfing, swimming, fishing amd boating. There is a good choice of surfing spots, both of which are patrolled by lifesavers during the summer months: Warrain Beach (with the Surf Life Saving Club) and the more sheltered Culburra Beach (Ideal for families). There is excellent fishing from the long beaches, rocky headlands and from your own boat, or hired vessels. Live bait such as pippies and beach worms can be collected from the beach.
