Three in court charged with possessing gun and plotting to attack man
Three men have appeared in court charged with possessing a handgun and conspiring to commit grievous bodily harm.
Paul Lewis, 39 of Trefor Avenue, Kinmel Bay, Jake Kiernan, 24 of Brickfield Park, Rhyl and Perry Lee Jones of Balmoral Grove in Rhyl faced magistrates in Llandudno this morning.
A fourth man, Kyle Evitt, 29 from Rhyl has also been charged but was reportedly taken ill on the way to court.
Police say he may appear before the next remand court tomorrow if his health improves.
It comes after armed police “forcibly stopped” a vehicle on John Street, Rhyl on April 24.
The men were charged with possessing a handgun with a barrel less than 30cm and conspiring to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to Damien Wilding.
Lewis, Kiernan and Evitt were also charged with conspiring to supply cannabis.
The three men were dealt with individually in court.
Lewis’ defence solicitor, Alex Fitzgerald said his client will be entering “firm not guilty pleas” to all charges.
Flanked by two security guards and wearing a grey jumper, he shouted: “Love you Sam,” as he was led from the dock.
Jones, wearing a dark grey fleece top, was represented by Craig Hutchinson who said will also enter not guilty pleas.
The court heard he was already wanted for other matters and will appear via video link for those matters at Llandudno Magistrates Court on May 4.
Kiernan, also represented by Mr Hutchinson, faces an extra charge of possession of cannabis.
“He intends to enter firm not guilty pleas to each and every matter he faces,” Mr Hutchinson said.
Kiernan, in a grey sports top also shouted: “Love you” to his girlfriend as he left the dock.
No application for bail was made for any of the three men.
They will appear again at Mold Crown Court on May 26.
