Two hundred bands ready to rock Wrexham this week at FOCUS Wales festival
Two hundred bands are set to rock Wrexham this week at the FOCUS Wales festival.
British Sea Power, Astroid Boys and Lucy Spraggan, will be among the headline acts with more than 7,000 people expected to descend on the town between Thursday and Saturday.
It will also feature the best in upcoming Welsh acts, art and culture, performing across 20 venues, as Wrexham is transformed into a hub of sound and colour.
This is the seventh year FOCUS Wales have held the event in North Wales’ largest town, which organisers say will be the biggest and best yet.
Neal Thompson, co-founder of Focus Wales, said: “This is going to be a big one for us.
“We are putting bigger bands on every year. This year we have the likes of British Sea Power performing and we are selling out individual shows.
“This year for the first time we will also have a free venue on Queens Square which will promote the Welsh language and include performances.
“The aim of the festival has always been to be a platform for the best upcoming Welsh musicians and this year we also have a music industry conference, with 100 industry delegates, from members of the music press to the heads of Indie labels.”
Wrexham venues include Central Station, Saith Seren, Un Deg Un, Oriel Wrecsam, The Royal Oak, Set The Bar, Rewind and The William Aston Hall.
Comedians, film screenings, workshops and art exhibitions will also feature over the three days.
FOCUS Wales is a not-for-profit organisation, established to provide an annual showcase event for the Welsh Music Industry.
Previous festivals in Wrexham have attracted big names such as The Magic Numbers, Charlotte Church, John Cooper Clarke, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Michael Rother who played with NEU!, Harmonia and Kraftwerk.
Neal said: “Anybody is welcome and for £40 with a wristband and they can roam around the festival and get into everything, or book individual events.
“It will create a great vibe around Wrexham.”
