'UK's poshest hostel' in Snowdonia has price tag slashed by £100K after failing to sell
A luxury hostel in Snowdonia – dubbed the ‘poshest in the UK’ – has had its price tag slashed after failing to sell.
Plas Curig, in the shadow of Snowdon in Capel Curig, was transformed into a five star hostel after a stunning renovation by Amy McIntyre and her mum, designer Jane McIntyre.
Bedrooms and bathrooms were transformed to create a luxury hostel feel that drew national and international attention. Reviewers dubbed it the ‘UK’s poshest hostel’.
Two years ago the property was placed on the market for £1.3m as the family looked to pursue other business interests.
But now the price tag with Colliers International has been reduced to £1.2m to attract a sale.
When Amy and her mum took over the hostel in 2011 it was under threat of losing its one star rating with Visit Wales.
They gutted it, lifting up vinyl flooring and worn terracotta tiles, and laying slate, keeping the elegantly worn central wooden staircase.
The ill-equipped kitchen was opened up and fitted with the old stainless steel worktops in a funky modern setting.
This saw it classified as a five star site.
Despite its high end rating dorm rooms start at £20 with a family suite for £90, while the entire 59 bed place can be hired for £1,000.
The letting accommodation is located to both the ground and first floor areas and consists of 14 bedrooms with a variety of configurations.
A Colliers spokesman said: “Plas Curig is a highly successful and profitable five star luxury hostel, set within the Snowdonia National Park and provides unique budget accommodation for the thousands of visitors the area receives each year.”
