Urban explorers defy North Wales Hospital site safety warning to film views from gas works
Toe-tingling video footage of the former North Wales Hospital site has been shot by urban explorers from the top of the old gas work tanks.
The video clip, which was posted on YouTube, shows a man scaling the coal silo towers, which were once used to power the asylum in Denbigh.
It shows views from high above the Victorian building as well as shots inside and outside the Grade II-listed derelict site, which is teetering on the brink of collapse.
The authorities have issued several warnings urging trespassers to stay away from the hospital before there are “serious consequences.”
In February, a fire was started deliberately at the hospital and firefighters tackled flames for more than four hours.
There have been two major fires at the site in 2008 and 2014 and a number of smaller fires – all of which were started by arsonists.

A Denbighshire Council spokesman said: “The council and its partners have made several public appeals recently for people to keep away from the site, as parts of the structure are dangerous and there have been a number of incidents of arson at the location.
“We also want to protect the buildings from further damage and deterioration and the fact that people enter the site and deliberately start fires is of extreme concern to us.
“They are not only putting their own lives at risk, but also the future of this historic building.”
The hospital, which was built in the 1840s, was closed down in October 1995 and since then it has fallen into disrepair.
Although a High Court judge granted the council permission to enforce a compulsory purchase order after a bitter seven-year battle , they haven’t yet served it, meaning off-shore company, Freemont (Denbigh) Ltd still technically own it.
Last year, it went up on the market with a £2.2m price tag but failed to sell at auction .
