What you say about GP surgery that 'refused to help OAP lying outside injured on street'
A schoolgirl who came to the rescue of an elderly woman who’d fallen and injured herself has been praised by Daily Post readers.
Readers congratulated Laura Williams after she came to help the 79-year-old, who lay in agony on Old Station Road in Ruthin after falling over, close to the Plas Meddyg GPs’ practice.
Staff at the nearby doctors’ surgery allegedly refused to ask a doctor to come and help.
Here’s what you have to say on the Daily Post Facebook page :
‘What has happened to caring for your fellow man’
Angie Morgan said: “Terrible! I’m a community carer I’d help anyone who needed it, wherever I was, helped an elderly man who fell while shopping in Chester whilst nobody else bothered.”
Paul Wilson added: “What has happened to caring for your fellow man or a person in distress we really are becoming a hapless non caring society, hopefully it is just a selfish few and not a majority.”
Carol Parry wrote: “Glad I don’t live in Ruthin, disgusting attitude, how would they like it if something like that happened to a love one of theirs, what goes around comes around!”
Emma Latham said: “They should be ashamed I know it’s not the same as A&E but still they could of helped specially if the ambulance was a distance away. This is disgusting.”
Angie Morgan added: “How nice of the 17 year old girl who came to help, well done Laura.”
Nanna Holywell commented at the bottom of the article: “How disgusting! Time is of an essence in these situations. It could have been a matter of life or death for the elderly lady. Do hope she’s ok now.
“It’s so easy to fall as we get older and even if there’s little damage done it shakes us up, so a bit of assistance and reassurance is what is needed. All praise to Laura for stepping in when she saw a need and was able to give the TLC that the surgery would not. Shame on them! Perhaps Laura will consider a career in medicine? There’s a great need for caring practitioners. Go for it Laura! Look after us old folks!”
Cheryl Elford agreed: “Thank goodness this girl was there she should be given a medal. Shame on the surgery.”
Sue Roberts said: “Well done Laura Williams I’m sure your family are all proud of you! What a caring girl xx.”
‘A GP surgery is not an A&E and really isn’t able to provide emergency care’
Lynn Green wrote: “Well done Laura. I’m sure the old lady was grateful. Hope shes makes a good recovery.”
Lyn Simmons added: “What an angel this lovely girl was. I hope her mum dad are proud of her, I hope the lady is ok, must have been very shocked.”
Rockpile commented at the bottom of the article : “This story is about the poor lady that had a fall, and the marvelous help that Laura provided. She was filmed and interviewed, and the story changed to be about local GPs.
“That is a separate story, and we should be thanking (and thankful of) Laura and young people like her, who learn first aid voluntarily, and keep a cool head when called upon. Well done Laura!”
Fran Ferner said: “A GP surgery is not an A&E and really isn’t able to provide emergency care. They would have had to leave a waiting room of patients (who would no doubt complain) and there isn’t anything they could do to help.
“Unusual nowadays to keep any controlled medication because of the huge bureaucracy. Unfortunately they have to prioritise their patient load. What this poor patient needed was the emergency service not a GP.”
Lynn Green added: “Basic first aid was better than none!”
Elain Cruse said: “Please remember that the receptionist are only carrying out the Drs orders but take all the flack. Common sense should prevail (I am not a dr receptionist by the way) well done to the young lady who stepped in to help, pity everyone doesn’t have the same attitude.”
Katy Shone wrote: “Surprising because my experience with Plas Meddyg has been very good. They called an ambulance after a routine check up when I was pregnant because my blood pressure was sky high. Surprised that they wouldn’t do anything or just call an ambulance at least.”
