Wrexham motorist arrested on suspicion of drink, drug and dangerous driving

A motorist in Wrexham arrested on suspicion of drink, drug and dangerous driving was one of several stopped by police over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Officers from North Wales Police‘s roads policing unit had a busy weekend arresting motorists across the region on suspicion of an array of offences.

On Saturday afternoon officers from the force’s Safer Neighbourhood team stopped a man in the Gwenfro area of Wrexham due to his manner of driving.

The 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst disqualified, dangerous driving, drink and drug driving.

He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of what is believed to be Class A drugs.

He has since been released under investigation.

Shortly before 11pm last night a 49-year-old man from Llanrwst was arrested on Conwy Road, Colwyn Bay, after testing positive for cannabis at the roadside.

A driver who was caught speeding at 93mph in a 60mph zone was stopped in the Caernarfon area yesterday evening. He was found to be over the legal drink drive limit.

The 32-year-old man from Llanllyfni was arrested and has since been charged with drink driving and will be appearing before Caernarfon Magistrates on Monday, May 15.

Shortly after 3pm on Sunday, April 30, a 30-year-old man from Wrexham was spotted driving without a seatbelt in the Trevor area.

He was stopped by an officer and was arrested after testing positive for both cannabis and cocaine at the roadside.

He has since been released under investigation.

A 42-year-old man from New Brighton was arrested shortly before 2.30pm on the same day after testing positive for cannabis when he was stopped in Shotton, Deeside.

He was also arrested on suspicion of assault following a domestic-related incident and has been released under investigation for both offences.

And a 34-year-old woman from Rhos in Wrexham was arrested in the Penycae area shortly before 10am on Sunday after testing positive for cannabis at the roadside. She was also found to be driving without insurance and was issued with a TOR. She has since been released under investigation pending the results of further tests.

A 39-year-old woman from Ewloe was also arrested on Saturday afternoon after testing positive for cocaine at the roadside in Mold. She has since been released under investigation pending the results of further tests.

Sergeant Trystan Bevan from the Roads Policing Unit said: “Despite our repeated warnings a small minority of people are still intent on ignoring our messages.

“I cannot stress enough the dangers that these people present, not just to themselves, but to other road users.

“Anyone who is considering driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs should know that we will be out and about waiting.”
